BSM Mercat de Sant Antoni Car park finalist for the best European Car park in 2019
BSM Mercat de Sant Antoni Car park has been chosen as finalist for the 2019 Prize for the best European Car park in the in the category of newly built Car parks. The award ceremony had take place within the framework of the 19th Congress of the European Parking Association (EPA) to had held in the city of Malaga on the 18th and 20th of September.
BSM Mercat de Sant Antoni Car park, inaugurated in May 2018, has been chosen as finalist from a total of 35 projects submitted from 15 European countries and from which the jury in charge of the selection has highlighted the high level of quality.
Among the presented candidatures distinguished the projects presented by the cities of Bordeaux (France), Cologne (Germany), Florence (Italy), Helsinki (Finland), Lisbon (Portugal), Luxembourg (Luxembourg), Manchester (United Kingdom), Mechelen (Belgium) and Wiesbaden (Germany).
About the points that the jury has valued of the candidacy displayed by B:SM they emphasize so much the services that it offers as the technical innovation: adapted accessibility, access by recognition of plate registration number, points of electrical recharge, video monitoring 24H, systems of information to the user and guide of free spaces, uniform LED lighting, energy sustainability and an image concept that focuses on a white base paint colour that contributes to increasing the brightness of the space and a formulation that reduces the sound impact.
Characteristics and distinctive points of the finalist project
BSM Mercat de Sant Antoni Car park is municipally owned and its management is carried out by B:SM by agreement with the Institut Municipal de Mercats de Barcelona (IMMB) of the Barcelona City Council. Due to the special needs of the Market of Sant Antoni, with commercial offer 7 days a week provided by the three markets that are its own (fresh food, fabric and home products and Sunday book), the construction project of the parking was planned as a project that integrated both technological and functional features to be able to serve both the workers, vendors and customers of the market as well as neighbours and residents of the neighbourhood.
BSM Mercat de Sant Antoni Car park has a total useful area of 14,239 m2, divided into two floors and with a capacity for 398 passenger cars (including 10 parking spaces for people with reduced mobility and 7 parking spaces for electric vehicles), 102 parking spaces for motorcycles (including 8 parking spaces for electric motorcycles) and 20 parking spaces for bicycles.
This equipment has been designed to ensure the sustainability of the city centre and help solve congestion problems by increasing parking spaces outside public roads, as well as contributing to territorial development with the aim of alleviating mobility needs of this historic district of Barcelona.
The Car park is located under the remodelled Mercat de Sant Antoni, originally from 1879 and symbol of Catalan art nouveau. During the construction works was found archaeological remains of the ancient Via Augusta and Roman necropolis as well as the moat and the counterscarp of Sant Antoni, built in the SVII century.
